BEIRA INTERIOR REGION
It is located in the northern interior of Portugal and is known for its high-altitude vineyards. The wines are influenced by the mountains, surrounded by the Serra da Estrela, Marofa and Malcata mountains and by the altitude, which varies between 400 and 700 metres. The soils are mostly granite, while the rest are essentially schist.
The climate in the region is very harsh, with temperatures below zero in winter and very hot and dry summers. This combination of factors results in white wines with great aromatic exuberance and great freshness, and in the reds, wines with complex aromas of wild fruits and spices, combined with a striking freshness.
